Maintenance Tips

Experts recommend a yearly checkup to keep your furnace running safely and efficiently, and to catch small problems before they become large costly repairs.  If you have a forced air furnace, your air filter should be changed on a regular basis.

If you find that your furnace will not run, there are some simple things you can check.

  • Check the air filter to make sure it is clean. Replace it if necessary
  • If you have a programmable thermostat, be sure the batteries are fresh
  • Clear the side wall vent of any ice, snow or other debris that may block the air flow.
  • Make sure the power switch and electrical breaker are both on

Regular Maintenance Tips

These tips can help keep your furnace running efficiently and can help limit potential expensive repairs.

  • Get an Inspection
    • To make sure your furnace is running efficiently, have your furnace inspected and serviced on a yearly basis. Scheduling at the end of heating season is the best time of the year and you can also have your air conditioner inspected at the same time.
  • Clean the Furnace
    • Dirt is the biggest and most common issue to your home's heating and cooling system. It can waste fuel and lower efficiency. The filter system, the blower and the motor are the three main components to the furnace that should be cleaned regularly.
  • Replace Air Filter
    • All the air your family is breathing comes through the filter. You should change you filter at least once a year. Changing the filter is something any homeowner can do on their own.
  • Clean Floor Vents
    • Remove floor vents and vacuum out the ducts, which usually attracts dust, dirt and pet hair.
